Anybody can find themselves struggling to manage their emotional health. We can find our mind racing out of control, in what feels like endless loops of worry, regret, despair, or hopelessness. We may be at mercy of intense anxiety or crippling panic attacks. Or perhaps life has started seeming dull or lacking purpose, and we just want things to go back to how they used to be. Sometimes we can identify a clear trigger to our suffering, like the loss of a dear loved one or too much stress. At other times, unpleasant thoughts and feelings seem to appear out of no-where, which can leave us feeling utterly lost and helpless or engaged in compulsive behaviors which we wish we could stop.

Fortunately, having worked with hundreds of clients, we know that healing and relief are always within reach. As specialists in treating individuals across the lifespan, we are passionate about using cutting edge science-based techniques to provide you or your loved one with support, understanding, and long-term healing. We can work together to uncover insights about the roots of your distress, teach you coping skills for more immediate relief of uncomfortable thoughts or feelings, and gently guide you in the direction towards the rich and meaningful life you strive for.

We also offer extended session times at a prorated fee which are often appropriate for clients seeking relief from OCD, as it allows for enough time to practice behavior change strategies in session.

We maintain a limited number of hours for reduced-fee appointments. Please discuss the possibility of fee accommodations, if needed. We are not paneled with any insurance company, which allows us the flexibility to work in a more comprehensive and clinically indicated treatment with clients, as insurance panels can restrict the number of sessions or limit the type of treatment. While you are responsible for paying the full fee up front for each session, we can provide you with an invoice (also known as a “superbill”) at the end of each month, that you can submit to your insurance provider to request partial or full reimbursement. Depending on your plan, you may get a percentage of what you already paid back to you, which can help to off-set the cost of therapy.

We would be happy to answer any questions about this during our consultation. Credit card, check, Zelle payments, and cash accepted.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Psychological symptoms are sort of like a “check engine” light on a car dashboard. They are often signals that there is something inside of us that needs attention, preferably before a breakdown. Therapy is a way to pull over, lift up the hood, and take a good look at what is going on that is leading to suffering and unwanted symptoms. With this insight, you and your therapist will work together to come up with a treatment plan that will give you actionable tools and skills to more effectively navigate the narrow, windy roads of life. To put it more simply, therapy will help you actively change the relationship you have with painful thoughts and uncomfortable feelings to feel more in control, and you’ll be able to take these lessons with you long after your time in therapy ends.

  • During your first session, you and your therapist will work together to discuss the various concerns that have been bothering you and to work together to create goals for your treatment. Your therapist will ask you some specific questions about yourself, including your strengths, vulnerabilities, and factors that are keeping you stuck. After the first session or so, you and your therapist will develop a treatment plan to highlight the strategies and tools which will help you meet your treatment goals. At Beachfront Anxiety Specialists, we value transparency and always encourage clients to ask us questions, give us honest feedback, and ultimately be in control of their healing process.

  • We provide clients with options for in-person therapy, virtual therapy, or a combination of both! We are conveniently located in the Riviera Village in the South Bay of Los Angeles, and have free designated parking spots for our clients.

  • We are not paneled with any insurance company (although Dr. Maisel can see clients who have the EPA Lyra Health). This allows us the flexibility to work in a more comprehensive and clinically indicated treatment with clients, as insurance panels can restrict the number of sessions or limit the type of treatment.

  • We are a practice made up of psychologists and Masters level therapists. We are highly trained in providing high quality, specialized behavioral therapy, which means we help people learn and practice skills that will create relief from anxiety and foster greater resiliency and grit. However, we are not medical doctors and we do not prescribe medication. For those clients interested in using medication in conjunction with therapy, we work closely with psychiatrists and other medical professionals to take a team-based approach and collaborate on the care of our shared clients. We are happy to connect with your current medical provider or refer you to trusted psychiatrists in our circle.
